Initially, you would validate their experience and thank them for letting you know. You would have to let them know that you’re a mandated reporter and that you have to report that situation. Then, you would proceed to ask the minimal facts: What happened? Who did it? When and Where? You would let them know that we’re here to support them. The age of the perpetrator doesn’t interfere with the mandate to report to DCF if the abuse or neglect is experienced by a minor.
