She/Her/Hers

Community Educator

What drew you to The Rowan Center?

I was previously a doula, and I realized I loved the advocacy and educational parts of being a doula, but not necessarily the medical side. So, I became a child and adult shelter advocate at a domestic violence and sexual violence crisis center and really fell in love with working in the schools as support for the community educator. I was drawn to The Rowan Center specifically because I heard really good things about the work environment and approach used with clients through members of QCASA from other agencies.

What keeps you at The Rowan Center?

I’m new to The Rowan Center, so I don’t think I’ve been here long enough to need a reason other than liking my job and still getting used to everything.

What do you wish people knew about The Rowan Center?

I wish people knew that when advocates say there’s no judgment, there really is no judgment. The people who work at The Rowan Center genuinely just want to support survivors.

What are your hobbies?

For hobbies, I usually skate or read. I love being outside and try to go kayaking whenever I have the chance. I also have an old grumpy dog to take on hikes and a cat that likes to go on walks!

What is something new you are learning?

For work, I think I’m still learning pretty much everything about the job and about The Rowan Center. Personally, I’m semi-successfully teaching myself how to crochet!
