How do I talk to my child about saying no to adults without undermining respect?

Respect does not mean compliance. Children can be respectful and still protect themselves.

You might say, “You’re allowed to be respectful and still say no, ask questions, or leave a situation. Any adult who is safe for you will respect that.”
