No. There is no requirement to be in individual counseling in order to participate in a support group, and there is no requirement to join a support group in order to receive individual counseling.
At The Rowan Center, the goal is for people to receive the kind of support that feels right for them, in whatever form that takes. Some individuals benefit most from one-on-one counseling. Others find healing and validation through group support. Many people move between different types of support over time, and some choose only one.
There is no “right” or “correct” path to healing. Support is not one-size-fits-all, and it does not need to follow a specific order. What matters is that individuals and families are able to access care in a way that feels safe, supportive, and aligned with their needs.
